listen to pay attention to something, using your ears : I was listening to the news on the car radio. | He never listens to anything I say.

->They all sat down and listened to my story.
I like hearing tapes and watching English films. (error)
->I like listening to tapes and watching English films
.listen (to) = hear and pay attention (to):
‘He listened carefully to every word I said.’
Compare: ‘I could hear two people talking but I didn’t listen to what they were saying.’
